" When your body, mind and soul are healthy and harmonious, you will bring health and harmony to those around you and health and harmony to the world - not by withdrawing from the world but by being a healthy living organ of the body of humanity." -   B.K.S. Iyengar

About our Philosophy and the Foundations of our Work...

Our mission is to be a dance company
that creates and performs original choreography that:
Is based on the ancient practices of Yoga,
using the postures of Hatha-Yoga as the vocabulary for our dances;
Conveys the spirituality, focus, and inner awareness of Yoga; and
Is well-crafted,
has artistic integrity,
and appeals to a wide audience,
while staying true to the essential spirit of Yoga,
which means "union".

The Yoga Garden Dancers' performances are primarily based on the postures of Hatha-Yoga. The choreographed movements are accompanied and informed by intense inner awareness, which provides a sense of focus for  both the performers and the audience. Because of this approach, which is integral to traditional Yoga, the performances are imbued with a spiritual presence that communicates itself to the audience, thus making the experience participatory. The Yoga Garden Dancers' presentations are energetic, dramatic, sometimes comedic, and often visually stunning, while at the same time meditative and inspirational. They convey the beauty and power of Yoga while meeting the highest standards of artistic presentation and theatrical production.

The foundation of our process is our practice of the eight fold path of yoga including hatha-yoga. I am especially interested in the states of meditative mind and open heart that arise from this ancient art and how these translate into dance and theater. I am interested in performances that are relaxing, uplifting and balanced  while creating greater awareness for both the audience and the performers. My vision is informed and inspired by the sacred creative exchange from this artistic community, from my teachers, and from the beauty of nature.
